Your Car was Impounded or in an Accident?
Things to know...
-Your Vehicle will begin to accrue storage
charges as soon as it arrives at our Impound Facility, and the cost to claim your impounded vehicle will increase with each day that it is in our Impound Facility.
-Proof of Ownership is required to retrieve the vehicle. Acceptable Proof of Ownership include
*Title
*CURRENT Registration
(Any Tag Agent can help you with a reprint for a
fee)
*Law Enforcement Impounds require Current Insurance or Non-Use Affidavit.
INSURANCE CERTIFICATION IS NOT ACCEPTABLE AS PROOF OF OWNERSHIP
-Valid Government Issued Photo Identification (Must match Registration) must be present in order to pick up your vehicle.
Impounds
If your tag is expired, you must bring current registration and tag (sticker), to the Impounding Authority (Who ever pulled you over and had the car impounded, ex: LPD, MP, Sheriff, or OHP) . Bring the release they give you, Proof of Ownership, Photo ID, Current Insurance and CASH to our office for your release.
If the car was impounded for no insurance, bring a valid insurance verification to the Impounding Authority. Bring the release they give you, Proof of Ownership, CASH, and Photo ID to our office for your release.
Accidents
If your vehicle was involved in an Accident, and picked up by Checker Wrecker, the first thing you need to do is contact your Insurance Company. Checker Wrecker works with all Insurance Adjusters daily, and they can do an adjustment on your vehicle while it is in our Storage Facility.
If you would like to transfer the vehicle to a body shop, simply come to our office with your Proof of Ownership, Photo ID, Current Insurance and the Name of the Body Shop you would like to transfer to. We will bill the Body Shop directly for your Towing & Storage fees.
If you wish to pick up your vehicle instead of letting the Insurance Company handle the charges, or you have no insurance, You will need..
* Proof of Ownership
* Valid Government Issued ID
* Cash
* Current Insurance
Bring payment for all monies due in cash
We do NOT Accept Credit Cards or Checks
on Impound Releases.
Please note that if you wish to redeem your vehicle outside of normal business hours, an After Hours Release Fee will apply.
AFTER 45 DAYS FROM THE IMPOUND DATE, VEHICLE FORECLOSURE WILL OCCUR UNDER OKLAHOMA STATUTES, TITLE 47 § 908. HOWEVER, IN ACCORDANCE WITH OKLAHOMA STATUTES, TITLE 47 § 904 – YOU WILL STILL OWE ANY REMAINING BALANCE DUE FOR TOWING AND STORAGE AFTER DISPOSAL OF THE VEHICLE.

If you are an out of state owner and wish to release your vehicle to someone else who is here in Lawton, you will need to print and fax a notarized Absentee Authorization and Hold Harmless Agreement (link below). Please follow the instructions on this form, as we must have this to comply with Oklahoma State Law. Failure to complete the form or to have it notarized will result in denial of the release.
